Hazardous Waste Management for Generators

Summary of Requirements for VSQGs, SQGs and LQGs of Hazardous Waste

The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) sets a framework for the proper management of hazardous waste. Within this regulatory program, hazardous waste is managed from "cradle to grave" meaning from the time it is created, while it is transported, treated, and stored, and until its ultimate disposal.

The generator of hazardous waste bears many responsibilities under this cradle to grave system. Generators are regulated based on the amounts of hazardous waste they generate in a calendar month, without regard to the business, size of the facility, or nature of the facility.

The objective of this course is to allow you, the generator of hazardous waste, a better understanding of the following:

  • What are the three categories of hazardous waste generators?
  • How do I determine my generator category?
  • What are the requirements associated with my generator category?

Relative to the requirements associated with one's generator category, the focus of this course will be those that manage waste in containers. The newly effective requirements of the Hazardous Waste Generate Improvement Rule are included within this course material.

Course Time: 120 minutes
