Metal Finishing Wastewater
Wastewater Treatment - Best Practices and Lessons Learned
Improved water management in metal finishing facilities can reduce the volume and cost of raw water and water treatment in facility operations. However, many times facility operators do not have the time to identify and review water and cost reduction options. For example, optimized water management will reduce the mass of contaminants generated, thus improving the quality of a wastewater discharge and ultimately the environmental impact of a facility’s discharge.
This course will discuss the typical “best practices” and strategies used in the metal finishing industry based on HRP’s experience, and will also enable a plant manager to compare their operations with typical industry practices and develop a plan for optimizing water management in their facility. The course will include:
- Water overview– approach to overall water balance in metal finishing industry
- Wastewater chemistry
- Effluent treatment technologies
- Wastewater permitting
- Wastewater recycle, reduce and reuse options/issues
- WWTP costs –capital and operating
- Best practices management
- Wastewater benchmarking
