Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
An Overview of PPE Assessments and the Types of PPE
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires that employers protect their employees from workplace hazards that can cause injury. Ideally, employers can eliminate the hazard in the workplace or provide other means of control such as substitution, engineering controls, or work practice and administrative controls. When these controls are not feasible or do not provide sufficient protection, employers must provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to their employees and ensure its proper use.
In this course we will introduce you to the PPE standard under OSHA General Industry. The objectives of this training are to assist you in:
- Understanding how to complete a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assessment
- Knowing the Hierarchy of Controls in relation to PPE
- Becoming familiar with types of PPE
- Learning how to select the proper PPE for each work task
